Robotics Engineer

San Francisco, CA, USA

Full Time Permanent

This job is no longer accepting applications.

At Glacier, we are taking on one of the world’s most pressing problems: trash. Did you know that in the US, we send over half of our recyclables to the landfill? We’re hoping to fix that. In doing so, we’ll also be reducing carbon emissions, energy consumption, and depletion of natural resources.

Glacier’s first product is a robot that uses machine learning and a novel mechanical design to sort recyclables from trash more quickly, accurately and cheaply than any other sorter on the market. This robot will divert tons of recyclables (literally!) from landfills every day. We’re looking for a talented robotics engineer to help us build this game-changing machine.

About us:

– We’re a small team based in SF: two founders (former Facebook engineering and Bain consulting) and three full-time engineers. As our first robotics engineer, you’ll have a significant role in shaping Glacier’s future.

– We’re backed by top-tier VCs and angels with extensive technical and industry expertise.

– We started Glacier to have a major positive environmental impact, and we are searching for teammates who share in that mission.

– Our prototype is already installed in a recycling facility. We’ve seen strong results so far, but we know there’s plenty of room for optimization. We’re excited for you to help us get there!

Your responsibilities:

– Collaborate with our mechanical and software teams to bring the robot’s existing motion control and feedback systems to the next level. This area of responsibility includes ideating, prototyping and testing new concepts, as well as debugging current issues.

– Own and improve upon our robotic control software, including microcontroller firmware, sensors, and testing.

– Work closely with our electrical and mechanical team to design, spec, and source electrical components and any components that require communication with our host computer.

– Partner with our founders on the long-term product roadmap; we have lots of ideas for what waste-ending technology to build next, and we’d love to hear yours too!

(If you don’t think you meet all of the criteria but are excited about us, please reach out anyway!)

– Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent

– Significant experience designing and developing complex electromechanical systems

– Self-starter mentality; you will be bridging the gap between our mechanical and software teams and need to be comfortable solving large problems with little guidance.

– Bonus points for experience leading technical teams or complex technical projects

We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
